Interest Free Credit Card

Interest free periods on credit cards in Australia can range anywhere from 44 to 62 days and can be a huge advantage when it comes to saving yourself some money.

Most credits cards’ interest is calculated daily from the day of purchase, but there are some that are charged from the day on which your monthly statement is issued. This means you end up paying less, which is always a bonus!

As with most things though, there is a catch – you must pay your monthly account balance in full (as opposed to the minimum required) by the due date. Like all the other bills we receive in our day to day lives it can be so easy to think to ourselves ‘oh it’s not due for another week, I’ll wait for a bit before I pay it off’.

Then before you know it the date has passed and you’re being charged interest on what would have been a cheap purchase.

A lot of cards have the same interest free period so other factors must be taken into consideration. We’ve reviewed what seems like millions of interest free credit cards, taking into account the price you’ll pay on fees and interest (both before and after introductory periods are over) amongst other things in order to find out which card gives YOU the best deal.

Take a look at our reviews below and find the best interest free credit card for you – and remember interest free doesn’t mean cost free!

Earn 20,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer Points to help get to your destination sooner.
 * 20,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer Points if you apply by 28th Feburary 2011. Offer available to only new applicants.

The ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum credit card is the top dog of the ANZ Frequent Flyer cards, so as well as being the #1 credit card in the Frequent Flyer category, it also takes out the #2 spot in the platinum credit card category.

Being the next step up from the Gold Frequent Flyer card, it has a number of benefits that are exclusive to Platinum credit card holders and are very beneficial for a regular traveler.

The core features of this airline rewards credit card remain the same as the other frequent flyer cards offered by ANZ (interest, balance transfer, interest free period). However the inclusion of travel insurance benefits makes this card much more valuable than the rest.

With this card you will receive extended warranty on purchases*, 90-day purchase security on lost/stolen/broken products*, not to mention overseas medical insurance*. Safety measures such as these can often be expensive and a major hassle to organize, so if you do fly regularly then the inclusion of these features is very convenient.

Using your Platinum American Express credit card will earn you 1.5 points for every dollar spent (up to $2500 a month), and like the lower level frequent flyer cards, 1 point for every $2 spent on the Frequent Flyer Platinum Visa. ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum cardholders also benefit from the concierge booking service*, which adds another level of convenience to your international travels.

The annual fee for this card burns a hole in your pocket, so if it is mainly frequent flyer points you’re looking for then we recommend the ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold credit card as this offers the same rewards benefits with a much cheaper annual fee. Otherwise, the ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card comes very highly recommended.

Looking for a credit card with a rewards program that caters for the whole family? Well you’ve come to the right place.

When you make purchases using your Rewards Visa you’ll earn one point for every $1.50 you spend (up to $50,000). Points can be redeemed for holiday perks (through a number of airlines), cash back, electronics, adventure activities, movie tickets, vouchers, and even kitchen appliances.

Just remember that unfortunately, any rewards points earned on this card expire after 36 months (3 years) so you need to make sure you redeem your points before this happens!

While the interest rate on purchases is quite high, the annual fee is still relatively low compared to other rewards cards. No doubt these costs are applied to the ANZ Rewards Visa in order to account for the huge range of rewards on offer.

With an introductory offer the balance transfer rate for the ANZ Balance Visa is very affordable. So if you are looking for a good balance transfer rate then this card is one of a number of good options and comes highly recommended.

While it is similar to the ANZ Frequent Flyers credit card there is much more to choose from with the ANZ Rewards Visa, and with so much flexibility you sure to find a reward that tickles your fancy.

ANZ Rewards Visa GoldCash Back - Gold

The ANZ Rewards Visa Gold is the next step up from the standard ANZ Rewards Visa, so the majority of its features are exactly the same.

Like the ANZ Rewards Visa, you get 1 point for ever $1.50 you spend and these points are valid for 36 months. Interest rates are also the same on purchases* and balance transfers (after the 6 month introductory period).

But here’s where you the benefits of the ‘Gold’ rewards come into play…

You’ll get all the perks of a premium credit card and more, such as a higher credit limit, commission free traveler’s cheques, ANZ Falcon credit card security, and your maximum spend for earning points is double that of the standard card at $100,000. You’ll also get up to 55 days interest free on purchases* as opposed to just 44 on the standard rewards card.

These features enable this card to take out the #1 spot in the Editor’s Choice category for cash back credit cards category.

The annual fee on this card is a reasonable. So if you’re a reasonably big spender looking for a rewards program to accompany your spending habits then the ANZ Rewards Visa Gold is a good match.
