How Did We Choose?
When it comes to choosing a credit card, we know the decision can be a tricky one.
That’s why you came to our website right? We’ve done the hard work for you. Great, that’s what we’re here for!
But you want to know that we’ve made the right choices for you. So, we thought it would be best if we kept you in the loop as to just how we went about choosing the credit cards that made the cut for the Editor’s Choice category.
So we’ll start from the beginning…
Despite the fact that we’ve made our choices for the top credit cards, there are still a few things you need to think about in order to make a decision…first, what do you want in a credit card? And second, how much are you willing to pay?
So when we were reviewing the truck load of credit cards that you’ll find on The Credit Card Guide, these were the two main things we kept in mind (aside from all the other little details that we’d collected from the credit card providers themselves).
Each category has its own little intricacies that make it different from the rest. Some were judged based on just a few factors, while others were judged more broadly. We won’t bore you with all the details, but we’ll give you the general overview.
For example in the low interest category, the first factor that was taken into consideration was of course the interest rate on purchases, cash advances and balance transfers.
Cards in this category were compared based on two figures – interest paid on balances of $1000 over a year, and interest paid on a $3000 balance over a year. Then when we had narrowed it down, we took into account other factors such as extra benefits and insurances.
But take for example, the interest free category. This is a very broad category as there are only a select few credit cards that don’t have interest free days, so this has potential to be a very time consuming task!
But fear not, a decision was made by first narrowing it down to the cards with the most interest free days available to their customers. Then we took into account interest rates, followed by insurances, extra benefits and the annual fees that come with them.
Categories such as the Gold and Platinum categories were however, a little different. The comparison started off very similar, but got much more specific, taking into account time limits, and monetary values places on the extra benefits and insurances that apply to these cards.
There you have it…simple right? Months of work whittled down to less than 500 words!
So now that we’ve got that covered, click here to see all credit cards in the Editor’s Choice category!
